And it should therefor put you very much on your guard that there are people who don’t seem content with it, who seem always to wish to impose their own religious belief on this. To say if only we could ban alcohol as in the 20’s we’d have a more pure and perfect union, or if only we could forbid the teaching of evolution, or get equal time for pseudo science, like the alchemy class that follow the chemistry period in presumably these school or the astrology class that comes after the astronomy studies…then everything would be fine. Resist this with every fiber in your being.

Thank you for the question and this is a fairly common comment/question that I receive. I have addressed it in the past but I’ve had a particular small rant building in my mind lately and I think this may be a good jumping off point to talk about it. I apologize if this is a bit of a ramble but I think it explains a bit more as to why I target Christianity and feel that I should target Christianity even though I have a general hatred of religion.
Christianity is obviously the most popular religion in the United States which is both where I live and where the majority of people who access my blog are located. Christianity being such a driving force in a developed part of the world has worked hard to change and adapt to the environment that it is in. Christianity used to spread through the sword and through missionary work. When much of the world was unexplored or embroiled with bitter and bloody conflict Christianity sat out to spread its message as far as it possibly could and propagate, these tactics no longer work nearly as well for Christianity in the modern world.
As a result Christianity has morphed, or even evolved if you will, in to a different area. Christians attempted to step in to the mental arena. They look to win people over with both “proof” and propaganda. For the past several hundred years this has been quite a successfully tactic for Christianity but that power is starting to fade as well because secularism is pushing back and their proofs are just short of entirely worthless with modern knowledge. Instead of moving on to a different target entirely Christianity has pushed ever harder to fully intertwine with the political arena, pushing more for popular opinion rather than validity. Perhaps they figure if they can’t win people over through persuasion they can at least make us suffer their ideals.
The most important battles with Christianity are no longer physical battles filled with martyrs and heathens but filled with Republicans and Democrats. They are no longer looking to embrace and convert the impoverished and sickly (although a few still do), instead they are looking to maintain their dominance and control over society and force us to uphold their ideals. They are looking to exert control on others to make them conform to Christians ideals. For many years the United States was pushed to the point of near theocracy over Cold War fears of communists and Atheists. It still lingers with us even now. Yet so many people harp back to these times as being the “good old days” of a much simpler America. The only way that can be considered really true is if by “simpler” they mean less progressed and more forgiving or prejudices.
I, for one, refuse to live under a theocracy and that is what many Christians in America wish it was. Pushing religious agendas in to classrooms and the private lives of millions of Americans is something I will do everything I can to push back against. So in the end I am willing to declare that Christianity really is my primary target. I hate religion in general but out of all of the possible religions Christianity is my “white whale”. It is the religion I have the most possible chance to bring some small level of change to and the one that most directly influences those closest to me. Really though the spread of Christian influence is a global issue and has far reaching global impacts. The term Christendom was and is a very real term in many ways with far reaching impacts, but perhaps I’ll save that rant for another time. I hope this answers your question.
