Question About Islam
Wanted to ask everyone if they maybe know of any good resources or information online related to Islam. I would like to find something that is preferably unbiased and would like something that can help explain the different branches of Islam a little bit better. I’ve been trying to study a lot more about Islam but am having a hard time finding information that I feel like I can trust instead of just propaganda. Anyone have any suggestions?

France steps up struggle against religious radicals →
PARIS (Reuters) – France will deport foreign-born imams and disband radical faith-based groups, including hardline traditionalist Catholics, if a new surveillance policy signals they suffer a “religious pathology” and could become violent.
A French Islamist shooting spree last March that killed three soldiers and four Jews showed how quickly religiously radicalized people could turn to force, Interior Minister Manuel Valls told a conference on the official policy of secularism.
His warning came two days after President Francois Hollande announced the creation of an agency to track how the separation of church and state is upheld in this traditionally Catholic country with Europe’s largest Muslim and Jewish minorities.
Valls and two other cabinet ministers told the conference on Tuesday evening the Socialist-led government would stress the secularist policy called “laicite” that they said was weakened under the previous conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy. (click the link for the full article)
Personally I’ve been very excited and very happy with the work France has done to push back against religious extremism and fundamentalism. France has done a great deal of work to approach topics and issues that most countries in the world shy away from. France should be commended for the work that it is doing, and it is already starting to show that the way it is approaching religion is being adapted in some ways by other countries such as the Netherlands and Germany.

Personally I can’t understand how a woman with any level of self respect could willingly submit to the major religions.

Egyptian Christians sentenced to death for anti-Islam film →
“The seven accused persons were convicted of insulting the Islamic religion through participating in producing and offering a movie that insults Islam and its prophet,” Judge Saif al-Nasr Soliman said.
The crude, low-budget video, produced privately in California, denigrated the Prophet Mohammad and triggered anti-U.S. protests and attacks on Western embassies around the Muslim world.
As if there hasn’t been enough bloodshed over this stupid film we now have Egypt openly calling for murder of those that practice free speech to speak out against Islam. From the times of the revolution in Egypt I started to worry that maybe the conservative side of things could be right for a change, maybe Egypt really would descend in to an Islamic theocracy. The stories that I have continually seen coming out of Egypt worry me that those predictions are coming true and that we will only continue to see more of this.
