This 10 minute short film was created by Theo Van Gogh based on a script written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. It originally aired on Dutch TV August 29, 2004 and sparked a great deal of controversy. It depicts the stories of four Muslim women dealing with abuse in Islam as they tell their stories to Allah. As a result of the film Theo received a great deal of death threats.
Submission part 2 never happened. Early on November 2nd, 2004 well riding his bike to work Theo was brutally attacked. He was shot and stabbed in the chest repeatedly. Despite his life threatening injuries Theo attempted to flee and stumbled across the street before being shot again, stabbed, and his throat slit with a large butcher knife as onlookers screamed in horror. The attacker ended it by plunging his knife into Theo’s chest with a letter attached.
The attacker attempted to flee and a motorcycle police officer and civilian witness were severely wounded in the shoot out that ensued. The attacker was eventually shot in the leg, arrested, and taken to a local hospital to be treated for his wound. He was identified as a 26 year old Muslim who’s motivation to kill was sparked because of this movie.
