Question with 7 notes
Anonymous asked: Jehovah's Witnesses teachings: The Bible was written over a 1,600-year period. Its writers lived at different times and came from many walks of life. Some were farmers, fishermen, and shepherds. Others were prophets, judges, and kings. The Gospel writer Luke was a doctor. Despite the varied backgrounds of its writers, the Bible is harmonious from beginning to end.* The Bible is scientifically accurate. Of course, the Bible is not a science textbook. But when it touches on scientific matters, it is accurate. Is this not what we would expect of a book from God? The Bible is also historically accurate and reliable. Its accounts are specific. They include not only the names but also the ancestry of individuals. The Bible is a practical book. Jehovah God, is the Creator! He understands our thinking and emotions better than we do. Furthermore, Jehovah knows what we need in order to be happy. He also knows what pathways we should avoid. The Bible truly is a book from God. It is a book that is to be read, studied, and loved.
*Although some people say that certain parts of the Bible contradict other parts of it, such claims are unfounded. See chapter 7 of the book The Bible—God’s Word or Man’s? published by Jehovah’s Witnesses.
What's your opinion?
My opinion is you need to get off my porch.
Really though a lot of that is just blatantly wrong. The bible certainly isn’t harmonious by any means and has many contradictions throughout. The bible is not scientifically accurate, miracle stories alone absolutely contradict science. The bible does have some worth while information related to history but is certainly not 100% reliable and has many things that have been shown to be wrong. There is no way to verify how accurate it is in references to ancestry and is even contradictory when it comes to Jesus’ lineage, you’d think that would be an important one.
So basically the first portion is a big load of garbage that they simply put out there without grounds. Which doesn’t stand well for the second part about him knowing us, hopefully not in a biblical sense. It is basically a load of propaganda and garbage. They do try to make it sound nice though at least right? Too bad once you look even the slightest bit deeper into it the smell of bull shit starts to come through.
