It occurred to me long ago when I started exploring religion that the utility of Christianity far outweighed it’s validity. Christianity is a great tool for those in power and those looking to gain a foothold in a power struggle. Once you have convinced people to accept absurd proclamations without any form of proof it becomes much easier to mold their minds to other ideas of influence without the burden or proof, utility, or truth. I think the idea of the malleability of the Christian mind really first struck me when I was considering the United States military bias against Atheists. The spiritual testing portion is strongly slanted against non-believers, where many people think this a horrible oversight or a bias from the creators of the test, I think it is entirely intentional. Who is going to make a better soldier, someone who willingly accepts what they are told without question? Or someone who will question nearly everything and look for reason or proof? Who is going to be more willing to follow out “questionable” orders or turn against their own moral compass when pressured by authority? Someone who is willing to blindly submit to authority or someone who is willing to question and even challenge authority?
The grunts of the world are the fodder of those in power. There is a reason our education system is failing, there is a reason that we are a crumbling country, there is a reason that the church has played such a large role in the history of this country. It is exactly what those who are able to pull the strings have always wanted. Call it a bit of a wacky conspiracy theory if you wish, but anyone who is an Atheist clearly sees that Christianity has not survived for thousands of years because it is “just so right”. It has survived because it has been continually molded, adapted, and re-used as a tool of wicked oppression and suppression of the human spirit. I have felt a lack of passion lately in myself….it is not because the passion is not there, but it is because it is feeling so suffocated with the futility of the fight. For every small victory of humanity, science, and ingenuity I glimpse, I am reminded a dozen fold over that the majority of Americans live in self imposed mental shackles. They do not yearn to be free….they have identified with their captor, they have been told they will be safer with this prison than without it, and they believe it….those fools.
