Question with 10 notes
Anonymous asked: one of my biggest pet peeves with islam is that people give it this halo status. if you think islam is a bad religion people shout islamophobia. i'm not scared of islam and i'm not hateful of muslims. i just don't believe in what the religion teaches and i think many aspects of it are dangerous and it provides humanity a place to step backwards instead of forward.
Islam has been amazingly effective in derailing criticism. Since the late 19th century there has been a push for a more mundane, diluted, and “peaceful” version of Islam. It has been pushed by many people and is what is usually presented to a novice in Islam as what the religion represents. As a result many people only have this perception of the religion or are often reminded of it. Islam at its root is not a religion of peace, it was founded by a war monger, you can not expect to have a wonderfully peaceful religion filled with humanitarianism when it was invented by a blood thirsty tyrant.
It seems now that if someone comes out against Islam they are met with a whole battery of attacks. They will be threatened or shouted down by Muslims, told they don’t understand or have the wrong perception of Islam. They will be called racist by people who apparently can’t understand that Islam is not a race. They will be called Islamophobic by people who think that any disparaging remarks against a group comprised largely of minority people constitutes some type of mental defect in the person making the comment. There are very few if any ways that someone can speak out against Islam and not be accused of something. The proponents of Islam should be applauding, very few groups could ever hope to achieve that level of fear amongst their detractors.
When it comes to religion Islam is particularly troubling and frightening. Like most Atheists I speak mainly about Christianity because it is easy, it is prevalent in first world areas, and it is generally ridiculous. It is so much harder when it comes to speaking about Islam because of all the stumbling blocks. Unless things change Islam will be able to continue on unchallenged in many areas. Islam could easily become the dominant religion in the world, especially if their tactics of shaming and scaring those that attempt to speak out against it continue on. The “SJ” community and extreme liberals have been used as pawns perhaps unknowingly in this beautification of Islam’s bloody roots, personally I will not be duped by the revisionist’s dumbed-down religion.
