Anonymous asked: Funny that atheists are the ones considered prodeath despite the fact the majority of christians are for the death penalty.
It always seems like such an odd disconnect. I’ve also run in to many Christians who are okay with war but still consider themselves pro-life. They only seem to care about the “life” when they can imagine it to be some bright eyed innocent little baby. It is kind of like the old rhetorical question, would a fundamentalist pro-life Christian still fight so hard if they knew the child would be born gay? Do they still care then? Innocent until born, then nothing but a dirty filthy sinner in need of redemption the moment they take their first breath.
A lot of times it seems like it boils down to an issue of “control” over morality. They really don’t care about the moral or practical implications of their belief, they just want to feel like they are in control. They don’t want other people to be able to do things they find personally detestable. They want to be able to push their morality in to everyone’s face because they feel as if it is so refined. Yet they take it out of a dusty old 2,000 year old forgery filled book written by ignorant desert dwelling sheep herders. Perhaps there are even bigger mental disconnects in their mind we need to worry about.
