Question with 11 notes
Anonymous asked: so when are you going to boycott using gas because the saudi empire doesn't believe in homosexuality and believes it's punishable by death?
Well I find this to be a stupid argument I will address it anyways. Gas in the United States comes from various countries. The particular gas station I use actually receives their gas through a company that does not deal in Saudi Arabia at all. So in that way I am not actually supporting the Saudi oil barons. Even those that are though are buying a commodity that is not readily accessible in all areas of the world.
When it comes to chicken you can get a chicken sandwich at one of a dozen different places, when it comes to oil you are somewhat at the mercy of oil producing companies to provide that product. You’re also able to eat lots and lots of various things other than a chicken sandwich but there aren’t very many options other than gas if you want your car to go. Well I generally agree that we should not support the Saudi government in their views that is also a large scale political issue that goes far beyond simply what we do and do not buy. A local company that can be found in our communities providing goods and services directly, not indirectly, to consumers is a completely different issue. That is a company that we are able to put pressure on because of where they are based. This is really a false equivocation, but that doesn’t stop people from attempting to make it.
