I have heard that one from people being legitimately said! It is horrible, especially the dumb founded looks of shock and awe if I reply with “Well…it doesn’t actually burn, it’s a series of nuclear reactions that produces radiation and heat.” For some reason since they can’t grasp the concept it makes me sound like a crazy ridiculous fool to say it.
That and the whole “If the earth was 10 feet closer or 10 feet farther away life wouldn’t exist on earth!” That one drives me absolutely nuts. Simply pointing out that the Earth’s rotation is elliptical and the average distance from the sun can vary far more than 10 feet at different times of the year doesn’t seem to change their minds. They still think “It’s a miracle!!!”
