Question with 1 note
andyetiampeace asked: What do you think of the disorganized religions? I came across a man today who encouraged me not to go to church or to be affiliated with religion but to read the New Testament and just find Jesus/God through that. Obviously he still considers the bible to be a holy scripture, God's word, etc, etc, but he hates religion and church. I like where he's GOING but I still think he's somewhere in the "delusional" pool. What do you think?
I’ve encountered people like that from time to time. It is an interesting idea but it seems the people that aren’t religious but still favorably push that agenda have a large amount of ego. They take Christian cherry picking a step further and say that everyone else has it all wrong and I am going to discover it on my own.
I think that it is a bit more positive. It is people learning on their own and making their own decision which is definitely a good thing. It would be impossible to gauge but it is hard to imagine if someone simply came across the New Testament, with no prior idea of Christianity or Jesus, that they would jump upon it as the greatest book ever written with all of the answers we’ll ever need. Most would look at it as just another fantasy book.
I think that people should explore and attempt to learn on their own. There are hundreds and thousands of people though that have read the New Testament and not “found Jesus”. Reading the bible doesn’t automatically lead to religion and going in to it without the influences of the church and religion would be a different experience for most. Really his ideas are a bit better than most, but the fact that he still think it will lead people to finding Jesus and god he still has to be a bit delusional.
