Holiday Break
Just wanted to apologize due to the lack of posts this week. I am off work until after New Years so have been spending a lot of time with my son and his new presents. I will be back posting regularly after the new year but may not have much else this week. Sorry, but now back to the Thundercats marathon me and my son are watching. :)

– “The Necessity of Atheism” by David Marshall Brooks
Anonymous asked: To continue your discussion on Hitchens, any response to the article "Burn in Hell, Christopher Hitchens" on the Mr. Destructo blog? Please read it before passing judgment without reading it.
lancelucid-deactivated20120504 asked: I have a question relating to your last post. This isn't really a religious question but you seem to have quite a way with words and an open mind. Do you think that society could ever be run without a government? I've read reports that there are countries that are complete anarchists and are doing fairly well. Why is it people are so afraid of not having an authority figure in control?
Anonymous asked: Do you believe that powerful religious figures, (the pope, bishops, etc), are actually religious themselves?
discoveringwhatyoualreadyknow asked: Hey HA! It's been a very long time since I've sent you anything. I'm a psychology major and I've recently been thinking about faith with a psychological perspective. My question to you is, what are your thoughts on blind obedience as a mental disorder (defining blind obedience as the incapability to make decisions outside those approved of by a controlling figurehead)?

– Christopher Hitchens
Anonymous asked: How do you rationalize away Christopher Hitchens being such an ardent supporter of war (as well as his support for torture, Islamophobia, and misogyny)? Are you picking and choosing from his legacy; if so, aren't you often criticizing religious people for doing that?

Brief comment on Christopher Hitchens...
I just need to take a brief moment to talk about Christopher Hitchens. In the coming weeks I’m sure I will be talking about him often. His death is really hitting me hard. I’ve been able to piece together in my mind why but it doesn’t make it any better. Despite the fact that is fairly personal I feel the need to share it with my blog because I don’t know how else to let...

The influential writer and cultural critic Christopher Hitchens died on Thursday at the age of 62 from complications of cancer of the esophagus. Hitchens confronted his disease in part by writing, bringing the same unsparing insight to his mortality that he had directed…
I am not ashamed to admit I cried well reading this. I will miss you...
marcetho asked: My teacher told me religion is a philosophy. For some reason I have a hard time wanting to accept that, because I've always seen philosophers as intelligent. Do you think this is true? Why or why not?
icanfeelyourhate asked: What a wonderful cache of wasted time. It's almost definitive in its waste. Each of your articles is smart, well thought-out, and totally insignificant. It takes just the right kind of person to pull that off! I especially admire how you deftly weave and avoid the scientific fact that your life is pointless - I mean, after you die, and this blog is forgotten, and then the planet is...
Anonymous asked: Someone once told me that "life is too complex to have happened from evolution", although I do think that it could be less complex or more complex just based on life's coincidental twists and turns, and it just so happens to be how it is. Sometimes I think religious individuals have a difficult time grasping that their life may be mere coincidence. We like to feel like we have a...
Anonymous asked: Sometimes I wonder why we take our views so seriously (or anything for that matter), whether they are religious or political. I wonder this because when you think about it humans are so minuscule and our existence is so short. The rest of the universe does not give a fuck if we are hardcore Christians or hateful Atheists. Why bother with so much argument?
randy-hates-you asked: im pretty sure you enjoy non religion questions sometimes lol so do you watch sports and if so what teams do you go for?
Anonymous asked: Have you ever read the Bible?
Anonymous asked: What evidence supports Jesus, or lack thereof? lm about as atheist as you can be, but idk whether or not Jesus was a real person

Anonymous asked: I often argue with my mum about religion. She says that though she can understand the negatives of religion as a whole, but she then wonders why it matters if a kind individual is religious, and doesn't use it for harm, if it makes them happy? What do you think?
Anonymous asked: is it weird to celebrate christmas if you're atheist? obviously I don't acknowledge the religious aspect, but I'm really attached to all the traditions, and the basic idea of the holiday (giving, peace, etc) is really nice.
Anonymous asked: I agree with you - I'd believe in God if there was enough proof of his existence, but I'd still see no reason for all the praising and adoring.
Anonymous asked: Do you think if it was proven that some God exists.. like jesus flew from the sky and bopped you in the head, you'd admit your mistake and believe? I'm pretty sure I would, I'm not tied to atheism as a definite thing.. Although on the contrary I think if it was somehow proven that the bible was a hoax, Christians would still believe in the bible and cling to religion. I dunno, food...
Anonymous asked: "Without having all the evidence there is to totally deny the existence of a God, how can you fully claim atheism? " Well, without having all the evidence there is to totally determine the existence of a God, how can anyone fully claim any given religion?
Anonymous asked: Without having all the evidence there is to totally deny the existence of a God, how can you fully claim atheism? How can one say there is absolutely no proof of the existence of God just because the proof provided doesn't satisfy them? Sometimes it sounds like atheists are arguing against something they believe is imaginary. They go all out for something they believe simply does not exist....

Anonymous asked: Where did the universe/ all of the energy in existence at the time big bang come from? How did all that exists come into existence in the first place? What is existence itself?
didacticism asked: Im not sure what your profession is but Im assuming it's not within the confines of science since you've stated before that you lack formal/higher education. Since youre an avid atheist now, have you ever thought about or regretted not becoming a biologist/evolutionist/physicist to help further "disprove" religion or to simply have a better understanding of the universe? I...
Anonymous asked: (cont.) tell me that I need to have god in my life to be happy. I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 10 but I can tell you now that having "god" in my life would not improve my mental health, if not make it worse. I have given them many legit answers for my reasons as to why I am not a believer, but all I get in reply is "It's just a phase you're going...
Anonymous asked: I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm 19 years old, and I would say I've openly been an Atheist/Anti-Theist since around the age of 8. I attended church for many years and even at a young age the things they told me that were "right" sounded like complete horse shit to me. Anyway, for the most part my family is pretty accepting. However, when the topic gets brought up, it turns into a...
elixerz asked: IN your opinion, where did we come from? Do you think it was all an accident?
Anonymous asked: Where is the original circumcision post?
Anonymous asked: I can prove unicorns exist.
poodleman asked: Nice response to the person who asked how you feel when someone says they can prove God exists. I'm an atheist, too, and that ain't open-minded, and it sure ain't cool.
andyetiampeace asked: How do you personally think people can find any level of sense in Scientology? I mean they believe it to be true but even Christianity has more logic than that line of rubbish. Thoughts?
Anonymous asked: Super personal, but I can't help but wonder. Are you circumcised, and did you have your son circumcised? I've read Hitchens' thoughts several times on this issue, and I agree. However, personally, I was circumcised, and I'm kind of glad I was. I understand it's wrong in principal, but I've never decided whether or not to make that choice when and if I have a son.
Anonymous asked: I'm currently leaning towards Atheism but there are just some Catholic traditions that I can't fully detach from because it's deeply rooted in my culture. For example, In the future if ever I will bear children I'd still get them baptized. I view it as a standard procedure for some reason. Thoughts?
Anonymous asked: What goes through your mind whenever you see or hear someone say that they can prove that God exists?
un-ddead asked: How do you do it anymore? I find it so difficult to even talk to a religious person anymore. All they want to do is convert me, and when I just try to explain the beauty that is the universe, they completely ignore me and tell me they don't want to hear it. I just don't get it, and I don't know how to have a discussion anymore.
Anonymous asked: What about religious themed music or art?
Anonymous asked: I know this is a stupid question to ask somebody who hates religion, but do you believe that religion has had any positive impacts on society?
Anonymous asked: Why do theists and the like seem to associate atheism or any type of intelectual with being a pompous, pretentious, and being a dick? You seem like a very nice person.

Anonymous asked: On topic of the last ask: I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time, and sleeping when something woke me. It felt as if hands were rubbing my back. I rolled over and saw my grandmother smiling at me and waving, and then I felt calmed and fell back asleep. The next day my mother received a call that she had passed in her sleep the night before. I am VERY atheist, but this has always thrown a curve...
